A Productive Day on the Farm

After having a coffee session with a friend, I had lots of energy to work on the farm. There was a couple things I wanted to do specifically, but then more things just seamlessly fit right in. I got so much done and felt so accomplished!

I grabbed my headphones so I could play music and get in the groove. Then, I started with blowing off the concrete where we park our cars and hang out when company comes over. That led into taking all the front door mats out to the edge of the concrete to be washed and dried. After some good kitties caught some gophers and left them on our porch; it definitely needed a wash too. I washed the front porch while the mats were drying. I washed off any stains or residue from washing the mats so the concrete was officially clean.

I recently decided to cancel my gym membership and reconstruct my home gym. I blew the dirt out of the carport. I moved some things around to make room for my gym area. I organized the tools that are supposed to be on the wall. Finally, I took out all the mats. I cleaned off the mats and let them dry. I put them all together and moved it back into the carport. My mats look like puzzle pieces so you can customize how it is put together.

This is a similar style mat if you are looking for some.

After my gym was all put together, I decided to mow some weeds. I started in our fenced orchard. I mowed the whole field except for some really tall weeds near our fig tree. I mowed outside the orchard where we hang out with our goats. The weeds are not everywhere anymore, they were spotty so it’s kind of annoying to get them all. I was in such a productive and happy mood that it didn’t bother me one bit! I did one side of our drive way and around the trees. I mowed under our trees by the main road and then it was too dark to continue.

I don’t always have the energy to do so much work. Sometimes I don’t have the motivation to do even one task. However, when I do get days where I am motivated and ready to work; I take advantage and knock out as much as I can. This works for me often, but sometimes I work differently. There’s no right way.

It’s important to not beat yourself up for not having motivation everyday. Find out what works best for you. When you do find the motivation and get some stuff done; recognize that and give yourself a pat on the back. Don’t focus on what you have left to do or that you could have done more. Focus on what you did get done and praise yourself for that. This simple change is how you can cultivate a positive response to chores and things that need to be done instead of dreading them.

I am grateful that I am able to recognize when I need rest verses when I have the physical and mental capacity to work. I am working on changing my focus from, “I didn’t do blank” to “I did do blank and that’s enough.”
