Another Trip to the Living Desert

A friend and I scheduled a zoo trip! We decided to head out early since it’s in the desert and it get hot quickly. We stopped by Starbucks to test out a low calorie, high protein hack. We ordered tall cold brews to be put in a Trenta size cup. (So there’s room to add) Then, we put our favorite protein shake in and stirred. My favorite protein drink is Fairlife. It was delicious. I highly recommend this as an alternative to syrups.

We finally arrived at the zoo! It was hot but not too bad yet. We walked all around the zoo. The porcupine was very friendly and didn’t understand why we weren’t letting him out or coming into the enclosure. He paced the wall nearest to us and kept looking up at us. It was really sweet.

We met Conrad the zebra. He is the largest breed of zebra called a Grévy’s. A kind volunteer was excited to tell us all about the zebra news. Conrad did a good job and they are hopeful the mare is pregnant. So, she was in the back enjoying her alone time.

The meerkats gave us a good show digging and running around. They always look like they are on a mission. I love it.

The wolves were up running around too. They aren’t always up and about when I visit so it’s a nice thing to catch. Two were running their path they have paved and one sat and watched the crowd. At one point, the wolf sitting had a flying bug around his head and he tried to catch it. It was cute.

We finally made it to the babies! Last time I visited, there was 2 day old Chacoan Peccary babies! They are getting bigger, but still little darling babies.

As always, I love visiting zoos. Especially the Living Desert Zoo, because as a member I get to see things progress. It’s a wonderful way to spend free time. I’m so grateful that I have this amazing zoo to visit.
