Rain Brings Green

Here in Southern California, it rains occasionally and then everything is green. It does look very pretty to have everything green since it’s not common for us. On the farm, we don't have grass, only weeds. Actually, we have quite a few wild mushrooms coming up. The green still looks pretty, but for us that means there is work to be done sooner rather than later.

I am a big fan of working smarter not harder. So they other day when it was still raining, I let Shadow and Donks out to graze on some of the weeds that are growing in the front pasture. That’s our horse and donkey. Donks can be naughty when he is out in the front, so they usually only get to be out when they are supervised. Since it was raining though, I figured he wouldn’t have time to be naughty. Shadow will stand out in the rain and get wet and dirty, Donks is the opposite. If it starts to rain he heads in for shelter. I never see him wet.

They always run dramatically when I let them out of the back pasture. This day was no different, except Shadow was throwing mud balls up with his hooves as he ran instead of leaving a trail of dust.

Rain makes Shadow frisky. I had gone inside to get warm when I heard him whinnying. Out the back windows I saw him running for his barn with his tail in the air. He did that a handful of times throughout the day, it made me smile every time. It brings me joy when he talks and runs around. I think he looks so majestic. Donks followed a couple times not far behind.

I had a package delivered so I walked down to the gate to grab it. I have been feeding treats while exercising Shadow and Donks lately. So when I came out to grab my package they came right up to me. They both followed me down to the gate right on my heels in case I had any treats for them. Donks even tried eating my phone in case that was something to eat. I gave them lots of pets and felt so special having their attention.
