Hello Aran Island, Ireland
I went to the Doolin Pier this morning to purchase a ferry ticket to go out to the biggest Aran Island called Inishmore or Inis Mór. I added on a cruise around the Cliff of Moher too! The lady I purchased tickets from said one of the Harry Potter movies was filmed there, so I’m excited to see! And she said the puffins are out and about!
I rented a bike with a cute basket and then I headed straight to a place called The Bar for food. I ordered an iced coffee and a burger to give me the energy to ride all over the island. They served me a coffee in a mug, it was cold but strange it was still in a mug and not a glass like I’m used to. They had the best fries and the burger really hit the spot.
I headed out on the bike and along with everyone else who did the same; immediately regretted it. There were so many hills! Definitely don’t get a bike to tour an island if you don’t already ride a bike often. Opt for the carriage ride, bus tours or just walk. I did complete the entire loop that I planned on doing, but wow it was a lot of work. However!! I got to see white speckled seals on seal beach. There were so many horses and cows and donkeys in the stone walled pastures. A couple of the donkeys let me pet them! I trekked out to the worm hole, a naturally made pool. It was massive! Way bigger than I expected. I got to view it from the very top of the hill. There were people below me, but they still were pretty high up from the pool. I made it back to town and returned the bike. I stopped at the Aran Sweater Market and purchased a couple wool products since I was on the Aran Islands! I grabbed a water from the local market and headed back to the pier to wait for the boat. I got a seat below deck on the boat so I can stay warm before my tour of the Cliffs of Moher. I actually got a row of three and a table to myself!
While we waited to board the next boat for our tour of the Cliffs of Mother, I made friends with a couple I had chatted with earlier. They were so sweet and saved me a seat next to them since they boarded the boat before me. I enjoyed our conversations while we were going around the water. The cliffs were incredible. It was definitely amazing seeing them from the water instead of up top as I had already seen cliffs from up top. These cliffs is where the scene from the Half-Blood Prince was filmed when Harry and Dumbledor search for a horcrux in a cave. It was massive!
